Lay Readers
The ministry of Lay Reading is that of reading the Holy
Scriptures during public worship. Lay Readers read so that the Word of God can
be easily heard and comprehended.
Lay Readers at St. Matthias also lead the congregation in reading
the appointed Psalm and leading the congregation in the Prayers of the People.
If you are interested in being trained as a Lay Reader,
please contact Fr. Scott, our Rector at rev_scott@comcast.net
or by calling the church office.

Appointed Lessons
for use on Sundays and Holy Days
The Episcopal Church uses a lectionary, or thought-out order
for reading lessons for each Sunday and Holy Day in the Christian year. There
are two authorized lectionaries for use in the Episcopal Church, the Common
Lectionary of the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) and the Revised Common Lectionary
(RCL).
St. Matthias uses the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL).
St. Matthias uses the New Revised Standard Version
translation of the Holy Scriptures for all our worship services. The full text
in this and other translations can be found at The Bible Gateway or at Bible.org.
Each lectionary can be found by clicking here. Choose "RCL"
on the Sunday for readings (in the NRSV translation).
