The following is from and email to clergy from Bishop Robert O'Neill, Bishop of Colorado, to report on the funds raised for Haiti relief during the Epiphany Season in the Diocese.

Feb. 25, 2010

Dear Friends:

As you know, our diocesan wide “Epiphany Appeal for Haiti” concluded last Tuesday, and although a few checks are still coming in, I do want to give you a report on this special campaign.

To be sure, the very gracious and generous matching grant of $75,000 that we received from the Anschutz Foundation has inspired unparalleled generosity across the diocese to reach out to our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

Today I am delighted to announce that with your gifts, and along with the Anschutz matching grant, we have received a total of $510,261 to provide for the immediate needs of our sisters and brothers in Haiti. These funds, as you know, will be distributed to Episcopal Relief and Development and The Colorado Haiti Project so that these two organizations can continue the good work they are already doing to provide for the basic needs of the Haitian people so devastated by this earthquake. As we speak, both organizations are providing food, shelter, safe drinking water and critical medical care in Haiti, while they also continue to work with local communities there to provide for ongoing needs like education and non-critical health care.

If you have not done so yet, please know that you can still send your contributions to this campaign to our office and we will see that they are distributed accordingly.

Your response to this appeal has been truly amazing and gracious, and again I wish to thank you and the members of your congregations for all of your prayer, effort and generosity on behalf of your brothers and sisters in Haiti. Through your generosity, you are shining the light of God’s love on the people of Haiti during a season of great need. Knowing that the road before them remains a long and difficult one, I want to encourage you to continue to be the light for them through your sustained and prayer-filled generosity in the days ahead.

I will have more to share with you in the days ahead, but for now, thank you for your wonderful and collective outpouring of love. I am grateful beyond words. May God’s peace and blessing be with you.

Faithfully,

Bishop O’Neill
