The Lord's Dinner is held every Sunday evening at Sacred Heart Catholic Church parish hall in Old Colorado City. (2021 W. Pikes Peak Avenue).
Churches from around the Colorado Springs area take turns providing the dinner. St. Matthias is the only church from outside the area that participates, and we provide 3 dinners a year. We serve the 1st Sundays of April, August, and December.
A variety of guests attend--some homeless, some people just traveling through town, and some low income families from the area. Sometimes we serve children.
Our meal includes meat, vegetables, a starch, bread, cake and beverages.
We greet our guests and say a blessing before dinner. After everyone has been served, we join our gusts for dinner and have a wonderful opportunity to visit with them. This has been a very positive experience for all of us, including our Youth Group, who help us prepare and serve the meal.
Based on observation, most of these people really do need a good meal. We get many thank you's from the guests; they truly appreciate us providing this meal.
Our next Lord's Dinner will be Sunday, August 5th.
