Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, is a day of fun and rich with tradition. One tradition is the emptying of cupboards of the fats and other items one would not, traditionally, eat during the season of Lent. Christian communities took this opportunity to gather and share these syrups and such over pancakes.
